Founder WOW Awards

Ritu Sharma & Nirmila Bhojani

Nirmala Bhojani, journalist and author of Ordinary Women, Extraordinary Lives has been a Community Activist since she came to the UK in 1986.

Born in New Delhi, Nirmala moved to South Harrow, London, where she wrote a women’s column for New Life and then to Leicester in 1988.

While writing for the Leicester Mercury, she met many women from multicultural communities dealing with issues. While facing her own challenges as a single mother to two young girls, she took on the baton of empowering women.

In 2017, she set up the WOW Women of the World Awards to honour the unsung heroes of society, who work hard to make the world a better place.

Having raised funds for various charities and charitable organisations, Nirmala has entrusted Kaushalya UK to run, grow and progress the awards since 2024, to raise funds for their Domestic abuse projects.
